In the best company

A successful Alpine tour also includes a good motorbike hotel. The "Hotel Sonnegg" in Saalbach in Salzburger Land - a TOURENFAHRER partner hotel from the very beginning - is definitely one of them.

Even those who are not necessarily "early birds" in everyday life can make an exception on holiday. Especially when it comes to setting off for the Grossglockner with host Georg at five in the morning. I never miss this opportunity. It really is a special experience early in the morning when the first rays of sunlight peek over the mountain peaks on the Edelweissspitze, the highest accessible point on the sensational high Alpine road. Add to this a small breakfast picnic with hot coffee - simply marvellous.

But this is just one of the highlights that you can experience from the Hotel Sonnegg in Saalbach. Numerous motorbike tours through Salzburger Land and beyond are available for navigation and even in print. Or you can entrust yourself to one of the tour guides, who offer a variety of excursions almost every day. As a motorcyclist, I immediately feel that I am in good hands here and have everything I need for a perfect holiday. And the fact that the hotel is also part of the "Let's bike together" group, better known to some as "Kurven & Knödel", inspires additional confidence. If you are travelling without a motorbike or would like to try something new, this is also the right place for you. As a partner of BMW Motorrad and Honda, current models are available for hire and testing.

Antonia and Georg Fresacher have been running the Sonnegg for 36 years. The former 20-bed guesthouse has been extended and renovated over the years. The hotel now has 34 rooms, divided into two buildings connected by an underground corridor, and a large car park. When I arrive, the car park is already full with various machines from all over the world.

"We have placed particular emphasis on the spacious wellness area with two saunas, steam bath and heated outdoor pool. The offer is very popular, especially in autumn when the days get shorter," says daughter Madlen during the tour. The junior manager practically grew up in the hotel and knows every nook and cranny, both in the hotel and in the region. Together with her partner Andi, she always brings a breath of fresh air to the concept with a lot of heart and experience. "We don't get bored easily and as soon as a project is completed, new ideas are already popping up in our heads," she beams.

In the evening, I enjoy an exquisite menu with the finest grilled dishes. And in the best of company. I sit on the terrace for a long time and chat to other motorcyclists. Many of them are regulars and I suspect that one day I'll be one of them.
