Phew, well done! Most of the participants got pretty wet on the day of arrival. Dark clouds hung over our domicile for the next few days until the next morning. ‘It's going to be fun,’ everyone mused as they looked up at the sky. And it did indeed turn out that way over the course of the week. From clear to cloudy. The mood throughout the entire THT Harz week, however, was consistently cheerful.
It's always nice to see when motorcyclists get together, most of whom don't know each other, and then everything harmonises perfectly. Also in terms of riding technique. This is always a challenge, especially for tour guides. You don't want to bore anyone and you certainly don't want to overtax anyone. With a lot of experience, Norbert and Peter managed to keep the groups together and somehow please everyone.
So on the first day's ride, we didn't head to the cloudy Harz Mountains, but rather to more favourable weather conditions in a westerly direction to the Weser. And lo and behold, at the coffee stop at ‘Biker's Point Fuchs’ in Uslar we even got to feel a few rays of sunshine. Hannoversch (Hann.) Münden followed, ‘where Werra and Fulda kiss’, as it is written on the famous Weser stone. We continued through the Eichsfeld region to Duderstadt with its historic centre, which is well worth seeing.
On the last few kilometres back to the hotel, we were given a good shower, but it was still a successful start to an excellent week. The excellent service in the hotel and the consistently excellent food played a major part in this. In the evening, Managing Director Christian Warnat opened the large hall and lowered the screen. This allowed football fans to watch the European Championship, while others met in the hotel bar or chatted with owner Fritz Sauerbrey. Some used the wellness area or simply went to bed early. After all, you're on holiday.
On the following days, the weather became more and more stable so that all the planned tours could be carried out. Among other things, a Kyffhäuser tour was on the programme. Via Kelbra up to the monument, to Bad Frankenhausen and back again via Südharz, Netzkater and Braunlage. In between, in Wickerode, there was coffee and cake at Katja and Marko's partner house ‘5 Linden’. Incidentally, the 12th THT took place here in September 2022.
Then finally the big Harz tour. First we cycled to Torfhaus, which is only around 30 kilometres away. From here you have a good view of the Brocken, the highest mountain in the Harz at 1141 metres. The view over the landscape from the new 65 metre high Harz tower is even better.
A stop at the railway station in Drei Annen Hohne, where the Harz narrow-gauge railway stops on the way to the Brocken, should not be missed on such a tour, nor should the Rappbode Dam with its suspension bridge, the Bode Valley and Thale with the Hexentanzplatz, the Roßtrappe and the highly recommended Klobenberg-Baude. And not forgetting the charming little town of Stolberg with its medieval half-timbered houses.
Finally, Goslar with its imperial palace was on the agenda. The Oker valley with its breathtaking rocky landscape and Quedlinburg with its marvellous old town will remain in our fondest memories. Just like the entire event with attentive, extremely friendly hosts with a high level of motorbike expertise.
